St.Antony's Church, Ellakkal is a Roman Catholic Church located in Idukki district, Kerala, India. St. Antony's Church, located right in the middle of the Kunchithanny village, is also an important worship center that plays an important role in the lives of the people in the village. The Church is under the control of Syro-Malabar Catholic Eparchy of Idukki.Parish historyThe second world war was started in 1934. Following that poverty, unemployment and scarcity of food increased. Black market practices increased. With increasing prices, employees and middle-class people found it extremely difficult to carry on with life. The farmers were left with nothing after giving lease amount to the landlord. The poor financial situations of the laymen made them fight against the feudal system. The slogan “agricultural land for farmers” spread like fire. People who suffered from poverty and unemployment set out joined protests demanding needs like food, shelter and clothing. On one side, people fighting for freedom and on the other side warplanes fighting for supremacy, with disturbances all over. During the British rule, with the establishment of Kannan Devan Plantations, Munnar became famous as traveler’s paradise. Pallivasal project came into existence by 1930s. During this period, it is considered that people came to Chithirapuram Anachaal Powerhouse areas. Anachal colony came into existence for a special community. Cherthala colony formed with Kunjithanni as its center. In that area, a government higher secondary school is situated now. Only 3 families stayed permanently in this place allotted for 130 families. The road build in conjunction with the Munnar tea estate through Chithirapuram to powerhouse and then to Kunjithanni was not fit for traveling.
