Sri Theerthagiriswarar Temple 3.38

Sri Theerthagiriswarar Temple was built by the Cholas around 10th century AD. The Shiva Lingam in this temple is expected to be suyambu (not man made) and the temple has a sannidhi for Jyesta Devi. The temple is situated above a small rock in the North east direction (Eesanya direction) of the village. A perennial water stream (sunai) is located in the rock adjoining the temple. The temple tree is Palm.

Thirugnanasambandhar in his kshetrakovai (திருக்ஷேத்திரக்கோவை) has sung this temple as a vaippu sthalam:

நெற்குன்றமோத் தூர்நிறை நீர்மருக னெடுவாயில் குறும்பலா நீடுதிரு
நற்குன்றம் வலம்புரந் நாகேச்சுர நளிர்சோலையுஞ் சேனைமா காளம்வாய்மூர்
கற்குன்றமொன் றேந்தி மழைதடுத்த கடல்வண்ணனு மாமல ரோனுங்காணாச்
சொற்கென்றுந் தொலைவிலா தானுறையுங் குடமூக்கென்று சொல்லிக் குலாவுமினே. (2.39.9)
