Mankameshwar Mandir (Temple) in Agra is devoted to Lord Shiva. The temple is situated at Rawatpara, near Agra Fort Railway Station. It is one of the ancient temples devoted to Lord Shiva. It is said that the Shivlinga covered by the silver metal was founded by Lord Shiva himself during Dwapara era, when Lord Krishna was born in Mathura. For child Krishna's darshan, Lord Shiva arrived from Mount Kailash and rested here which was a Shamshaan(cremation ground) then. River Yamuna which used to flow here. Lord Shiva meditated and stayed here overnight and wished that if he would be able to make Lord Krishna play on his lap, he would establish a linga here. Next day, after seeing Lord Shiva's swaroop, mother Yashoda asked Lord Shiva not to come near the child as Krishna might get scared of him. Seeing this, Lord Krishna did a leela (drama). He started crying while pointing towards Lord Shiva who was sitting under a banyan tree in samadhi position. Mother Yashoda called Lord Shiva and asked him to give his blessings to her child(Krishna). While returning from Gokul, Lord Shiva laid his linga(swaroop) here. Then, he desired that as his wishes were fulfilled here; whosoever, in future, comes here with his mankamna (wishes), his lingaswaroop will fulfill his or her mankamna(wishes). From then onwards, this lingaswaroop is known as Shri Mankameshwarnath Ji.
