Shaheed Major Rohit Memorial (NGO) Mandi Poonch

is registered Non Governmental organization (NGO), Registered before the registrar of societies J&K Government under number 3137-Rs/247Dt.9-6-2005.The NGO is working at Mandi, District Poonch in J&K carrying on the name of a Martyr Late Major Rohit Sharma who created a great love and affection among the people at Mandi Poonch.
This organization is being run by Ali Mohd Mir resident of village Mandi, Chairman of this NGO in the far flung areas of Poonch.
Sh. Ali Mohd Mir is continuously organizing Rohit Memorial Cricket Tournament in District-Poonch This is the only and unique Non Governmental organization which is continuously working relentlessly by multifarious activities and initiative aimed towards accomplishing harmony between the armed forces and the people in general. This organization also coordinates relief work during calamities and notably contributing in providing relief during the earthquake in this state of Jammu and Kashmir. The organization further conducts All India tours of senior citizens, The Medical Camps, The cultural events and cricket tournaments are organized by this NGO.
Major Rohit Sharma S/0 Sh Dr Ved Vrat Sharma House No. 65, Sector 8, Panchkula (Haryana) belonged to 8 -JAK LI posted as major in Mandi Poonch Sector in the year 1998.
The life of the villagers in Mandi area without the Army was not possible. The area was a safe haven for the militants at one time. There were about 2000 militants operating in the area in the year 1998. This area was considered the liberated Zone and Pakistani flags were fixed on every roof top. The villagers could not cultivate their land and graze their cattle, sheep and goat in this hilly area for about 4 years from 1998 to 2006. The local people however supported the army. Many local civilians were killed by the militants. Major Rohit Sharma was musterded support of local youth and the army successfully with the help of local people completed operation Sarpvinash .The militants was stopped and their movement was restrained by the army with the help of local people. The government of India formed the VDCs those who with the help of army combat
militancy .Major Rohit Sharma played the first and great role and for the sake of country sacrifice his life on 17-6-1998 and became the Martyr. His highness Honb'ie the Governor of J&K state is expressed by the National spirit of patriotism of the constituent body of this NGO and feels pleasure every year while attending the seminar organized by the NGO at Mandi Poonch which is a place worth known of Shri Buda /Amar Nath Ji. The NGO shall organize seminars of anti militancy programs and help the affected militancy families/ people / orphans and widows etc. The NGO invites membership of all concerned interested for the welfare scheme of the martyrs.
