Sahjeevan 2.43

In the early nineties, when the rural women’s movement was being led by Kutch Mahila Vikas Sangathan (KMVS) to address the numerous issues of drought, migration, water and fodder shortage, falling productivity in traditional occupations of agriculture, animal husbandry and fisheries, and the loss of perspective on natural wisdom, Sahjeevan was born in response to support environment and livelihood issues. Sah means together and jeevan means living, implying harmonious co-existence. Sahjeevan envisions a world where communities living on traditional livelihoods, such as pastoralists, exist in harmony with the natural ecosystem, and the two help nurture each other and thrive together. Simply, Sahjeevan values ‘living with nature’. Therefore, Sahjeevan, from its inception, that is, in 1991 (registered trust in 1997) strongly supports humanitarian behavior, decentralized system, respect for the traditional knowledge, ethnic culture gender equality on natural resource management and traditional livelihoods.
