Baba Gelaram Sahib is a house-hold name among the numerous beneficiaries of extensive compassionate and loving gestures undertaken by initiatives sparked by Baba Gelaram’s guru Baba Hardasram Sahib Godriwala. Baba Gelaram was the most worthy discipline of Baba Hardasram; he further his work and established “Godriwala Dhaam” in many cities and extensively worked for the betterment of the old, poor and underprivileged. He instigated initiatives for feeding the needy, tending to the old and sick, facilitating marriages of girls from poor families, conducting group marriages and many other similar programs that would benefit the society at large.

FINDING HIS CALLING

Baba Gelaram was born on 12th March 1930 in Bhannar, Sindh (now in Pakistan). Since Childhood, Baba Gelaram was of saintly disposition and had always expressed his primary interest in working for the welfare of people around him. He would regularly attend and adhere to all religious activities such as serving the darbar, imbibing the presence of saintly souls and reciting the Guru Granth Sahib. He was married to Amma Bindarandevi in keeping with the society’s norms.

After partition, Baba had to leave Sindh and he settled in Bhatapara village in Chattisgarh, India. He opened a shop to upkeep the daily needs of his family which consisted of his wife, a daughter, a son and his parents. However, his spiritual nature was quite visible in the way of led his life – plain, simple and very modest. He kept pining for the day when he will meet his true master, his sadguru, who will show him the path to God. In Baba Hardasram Godriwala, Baba Gelaram found his guru. Gradually, Baba Gelaram left his family and completely devoted himself to serving his guru and people.

Baba Gelaram carried out service of the old, sick, and needy without harboring any feeling of pride, disdain or contempt. He gave his love and care to everyone without any discrimination. Baba Hardasram Godriwala put forth many tests for Baba Gelaram and after he had passed them all, Godriwala Sahib chose him as his successor and blessed him with his light that will burn forever. After the demise of Baba Hardasram Godriwala in 1977, Baba Gelaram went on to spread the message and work of Godriwale Baba all over world.

BABA GELARAM – SAINT WITH SIMPLE SOLUTIONS

Baba Gelaram was not one to get involved in big debates or deliver long self – righteous sermons. He always promoted the virtue of helping through action and not through words. Having said this, it is known by all that the satsangs organized by Baba had a quality and power not of this world. When in his presence, it was seen that a kind of surreal and all enveloping pious energy enveloped all the disciples. Here is a story that relates how Baba used the satsang to impart and endow blessing on his people. Once, during a satsang, Baba Gelaram started urging everyone to participate with more and more energy. He was leading the program with unforeseen exuberance that sent his devotees in a pleasant tizzy and also confused theme. As the meeting ended, someone told Baba Gelaram that one of his ardent devotees has had a paralytic attack. Baba addressed that devotee and said that had he accepted this blessing that he was sending across with an open heart, he would have been spared, or been mildly affected. Such was the grace, foresight and generosity of Baba Gelaram!

Baba Gelaram strived to solve his devotees’ problem through simple means and refrained from using complicated methods. His solution focus on supporting the faith of the people and providing them solutions to their day to day problem of insomnia. Baba advised her to start penning down the glory in splendour of Godriwale Baba. The women did as told and was freed from her ailment.

Baba Gelaram was great supporter of spreading the word of Godriwale Baba. When approached with an idea of publishing of magazine for this purpose he blessed an initiative and today we have great magazine “Godriwala Prasad” that, with his grace reaches all the devotee of Baba every month.

Baba Gelaram also blessed an illiterate devotee by giving him a note book and pen and writing a guru mantra on the note book. The devotee no longer remained illiterate and started describing the magnificence of Godriwale Baba in writing. Such is the grace of Baba Gelaram.

BABA GELARAM MERGES INTO THE WHOLE

Deemed to be all knowing every present and an expression of consciousness it self, Baba Gelaram Sahib is the very essence of his disciples lives even after he merged with the one, the Parmatma on 8th of December 2008. His devotees carried his remains in small vessels to place it in there cities. Four lage sacred vessels where created with one of them gracing the Seva Manda in Jalgaon, and the remaining three to be tendered in to the holly river Ganga, Godavari and at the Sangam, the meeting point of three rivers (Ganga, Jamuna and Sarsvati) in Allahabad.

The President of India Mrs. Pratibha Devisingh Patil also presented her condolences by offering flowers on the picture of Baba Gelaram Sahib and Baba Hardasram Sahib. Baba Gelaram Sahib was one of the most gifted and blessed saints of all times. He was an extra ordinary man living the most ordinary life. He was an example and a light in the life of thousand flocked in to his presence..
