Pasumpon Muthuramalinga Thevar College,affiliated to Madurai Kamaraj University,was started with the fund of the kallar community and is administrated by the kallar kalvi kazhagam. The long-time dream of the people of this area, to hava college, come true by the priceless efforts of this three legends thiru P.K. Mookkiah Thevar Ex.M.P., Thiru. V.K.C. Natarajan, IAS, Thiru.K. Perumal Thevar and other well wishers of the community.

The contribution made by the farmers, kallar and panchayat union schools and the common funds of the piramalai kallar community privided additional assitance to start this institution. The college is situated on the madurai Theni national hightway at a distance of 3 kms from usilampatti town. It covers an area of 54.65 Acres, The college was inaugurated on 5.7.1968 by Dr. T.P. Meenakshi sundarnar, the then vice-chancellor of Madurai university.

The location of the college, Usilampatti, is the political and economic center of kallarnadu. Two other colleges were also started in the same period,one at kamuthi in Ramanathapuram District and the other at meelaneelithanallur in Tirunelveli District,which were founded with the active patronage of P.K.Mookiah Thevar, one of the founder of the college at Usilampatti.
