National University Student Skill Development Programme (NUSSD ) is a Pilot Programme undertaken in 11 Universities across 9 States and Mumbai/Thane region mostly in backward rural districts, particularly in Central India, starting in 2013; and aims at increasing employability of National Service Scheme (NSS) students by imparting knowledge and skills, through in cutting edge pedagogy and learning materials, while undertaking community work that brings about sustainable social change.
The Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports has been in consultation with office of former Advisor to Prime Minister on Skill Development (APM office) on ‘National University Students' Skill Development Programme (NUSSD); to introduce 'Skill Training' so that the graduating youth acquire job related skills through immersive projects. This programmes involves college student engagement over three years in a multi stakeholder collaborative model involving NGO’s, Universities and Corporates.
Tata Institute of Social Sciences is the key knowledge partner. As proof of concept, the Ministry of Youth affairs (YAS) has agreed to conduct a Pilot by partnering with former APM office and TISS.
