NCAER, the National Council of Applied Economic Research, is India’s oldest and largest independent, economic think-tank, supporting India’s development through applied economic research. Established in 1956, NCAER is part of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru’s vision for the independent institutions that an independent India needed. NCAER’s work covers a range of topics spanning the macro economy, trade, infrastructure, agriculture, poverty, human development, gender, and the environment and natural resources. NCAER is one of a handful of think-tanks globally that combine rigorous analysis and policy outreach with deep data collection capabilities, particularly for large-scale household surveys.
