It serves as a national repository for cell lines and hybridomas with an agenda focusing on basic research in cell biology coupled with teaching and training.
NCCS is one of India's leading research institutes in biological sciences.Diverse areas of modern cell biology including cancer biology, immunology, stem cell and regenerative biology, metabolic disorders, structural biology and microbiology are explored by the faculty of NCCS, using conventional and modern approaches like genomics, proteomics and bioinformatics.

The research at NCCS is driven by the talent and dedication of a team comprising scientists, research associates, Ph.D. students, project assistants and technicians, under the able leadership of the Director, Dr. Shekhar Mande.
