MILES is the name of an ardent desire to give an outlet for the hopes and dreams of those who have hardly any wherewithal to get them realized. Expanded Moopen Institute for Local Empowerment, MILES has been conceived as a project to mould a strong, determined and aware citizenry in the villages of India. To take the lead, Kalapakanchery, a north Kerala village, was chosen for pioneering the project. It is initiate and funded by physician and philanthropist Padma Shri Dr. Azad Moopen whose milestones in the national and international spheres have given his village many moments to be proud of. Typical of an Indian village, Kalapakanchery is full of untapped human resources which would be ideal for a well knit society and a mature commune. MILES aims at exploring and bringing the most out of these resources through multifarious programmes and activities.
