Mayur Vihar is a posh residential area close to the Noida-Delhi,Border. situated just across the Yamuna River. As the name suggests, it is the dwelling (vihar) of the peacock (mayur). This residential area came into existence in 1979-80, when trans-Yamuna area was not much inhabited. The government decided to sell the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) flats to employees of Public Sector Units (PSU's) and semi-PSU's like Bharat Heavy Electricity Limited (BHEL), DDA, etc. This development was also an experiment to integrate people belonging to various economic bracket's i.e. High Income Group (HIG's), Middle Income Group (MIG's) and Low Income Group (LIG's) in one community. The houses with Mayur Vihar is a relatively recent development of Delhi that was developed in three phases. It is well connected by high-frequency buses and has its own station, 'Mayur Vihar metro station' on the blue line of the Delhi Metro.
