Established in 1978, Markaz has been a name not just of an Islamic University, but of a culture that the Muslims Community in India seems to be representing over the past three decades. As the term ‘Markaz’ itself literally denotes, it has gradually grown to become a ‘centre’ of social, cultural progress as well as educational excellence for the entire communities in India as a whole and those of Muslims in particular.
Markaz firmly believes that a system of education devoid of deep-rooted moral and spiritual vision is more likely to lead to cultural anarchy that would affect the goodwill of the society it represents at large. Therefore, it always truly attempts to combine much significant and broader aspects of sacred and profane knowledge. In the process, creating a very good ambience stimulating direct experiences of spiritual refreshment, it offers each student a thorough guideline in order to be enlightened with moral literacy. Much seriously, it considers both streams of education to be essential not just as it can help the citizen get comprehensive progress, but it largely concerns the security issues of the nation. Markaz, hence, relentlessly try to ensure that orphans, destitute and students from underprivileged societies get into schools and undergo higher education. Needless to say, empowering the women community is apparently one of the prime objectives of its institutions that relentlessly try to get them into the forefront of higher education and moral literacy campaigns, in a way that is strictly adhered to Islamic principles.
Markaz, through a number of spiritual gatherings, Ahdaliyya Majlis for instance, (named after Seyyid Abdul Qadar Al ahdal, one of its founding fathers), conducted at the beginning of each month and led by great scholars and Sadaths (descendants of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ),is able to provides best experiences of spiritual solace to each of its larger community including students, teachers and well-wishers, and tend to convince them of the significant issues encountering the society and of the best ways of approaching it. Some brilliant visionaries with a pragmatic vision anchored at a clear sense of purpose, pleasant and favourable environment of learning, a harmonious relationship between student community and faculty, the work force well-committed to making material and non-material outcomes, a spiritually inspired linkage between the University and the society, a refreshing capacity for championing the cause of the whole humanity are the central elements that help the process of ‘shaping a culture’ get actually done.
