Industrial Training Institute

During the pre-independence days in the midst of the horror of the second world war the colonial ruler the british government established this training center. Under aegin of Donbosco school of Shillong town so that the trained personnel could not be engaged in war fare. After running 3 years this institute had to be shifted to Rajabari 3km from Jorhat town in 1947 under the prompt guidance of the principal maclin smith. The name of this institute was known as war technical center. At that time mean while, after war the ex-soldiers were trained in various department of engineering and non-engineering sections.

Present ITI Prospects :
(a) The National Trade Certificate awarded by the NCVT is recognized for recruitment to the subordinate posts and services under Govt. of India for which a certificate in craftsmanship/National trade Certificate is prescribed as the requisite qualification.
(b) Major Industrial houses/Govt. departments recruit ex-ITI trainees for employment and apprenticeship training.
(c) Industrial departments and other agencies give preferential treatment to ITI certificate holders while considering schemes for self-employment. The employment exchanges located at the district head quarters also offer guidelines and counseling for self-employment. The DE&CT, Assam reserves the right to add/delete/modify all or any provisions of the rules and the DE&CT has the discretionary powers to affect any change in the interest of public service.
Trainees after completion of training period are required to appear in the All India Trade Test conducted under the agues of NCVT. The successful trainees are awarded National Trade Certificates, which is recognized by the Govt. of India. Training in Govt. ITI’s is provided free of cost or nominal fee start. These are also provided Library, Sports and medical facility. Syllabi of various trades are periodically revised . Broad based modular training is offered in four ITI of the state under the Centre of Excellence scheme.
Scope and duration:

ITI’s offer standard Certificate course of 2 (two) years and 1 (one) year in Engineering and Non-engineering trades. These courses are designed by the National Council of Vocational Training, which is an Apex body responsible for curriculum design, trade testing and certification. The aim of Vocational training is to equip the trainees for suitable industrial employment and to promote self-employment.
