Harawal Cycle Initiative 2.76

“HARAWAL” was the name given to the Front rows of the Mewar Army. These brave people volunteered themselves knowing that they would be the first ones to die in a battle. The word ‘Harawal’ for our initiative is used for its significance.

HARAWAL is an initiative taken to Promote Cycling in Udaipur city. The best part is that we know by doing so, we will only improve our health and help the environment.

We dream of an Udaipur city:
• That is known for its number of cycle enthusiasts and is called The Cycle City of India, apart from being called the Lake City.
• Where people choose more environmentally friendly ‘modes of travel’ rather than opting for unsustainable transportation choices such as cars, bikes and other private vehicles.
• Where the first preferred choice of private transport is bicycles.
• Where a cyclist feels just as proud and receives respect as a Mercedes driver does nowadays.
• Where there is no need for petrol pumps.
• Where the area of a parking space need not be the same as that of a building. Instead bicycles can be stacked on varying levels, to help save space for more Nature Parks and Cycle Lanes.

Our goals:
• To promote the use of cycles.
• To bring people closer to nature and evoke a sense of being a part of a community, within them through cycling together.
• To change perceptions about cycling, mainly, promoting it as the ideal choice of private vehicle.
• To turn cycling into a safe, efficient, inexpensive and a convenient form of transportation in Udaipur.
