The Institute has been set up by Indian Centre for Advancement of Research and Education, Haldia (ICARE) which has already established Haldia Institute of Technology - Engineering College in West Bengal in 1996 thereafter Haldia Institute of Maritime Studies and Research the first Institute in Eastern India to conduct Bachelor in Nautical Science, Haldia Law College, College of Paramedical Science, Global Institute of Science and Technology, Vidyasagar Primary Teachers and Training Institute, Institute of Education, Haldia (B.Ed.), Haldia Institute of Dental Sciences and Research and Haldia School of Languages, etc. apart from this Institute.

Haldia Institute of Management is affiliated to Mulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology (Formerly known as West Bengal University of Technology) and is situated at R&D Building, ICARE Complex, Haldia. The institute was established in 2004 keeping in mind the growing need of health care managers and administrators. The Institute is running successfully over a decade and has been able to place students in numerous hospitals in west Bengal as well as in different parts of India.
