The 'Ganga Aquarium' is situated at National Bureau of Fish Genetic Resources (NBFGR), Canal Road (VIP Road) a connecting road between Kanpur Road and Rae Bareli road, Lucknow. Inaugurated by Shri S. Ayyappan, Secretary, Department of Agriculture Reaseach and Education (DARE) and Director General ICAR, New Delhi on 19th November 2010, the Aquarium is said to be one of the best Aquariums in India. Dr. J.K. Jenna is the Director of NBFGR. Fish is said to be powerful energizer of wealth, luck and happiness in our life. Fish symbolizes abundance of wealth and prosperity and fortune. Fish Aquarium is kept in hotels, guest rooms and in functions in Lucknow. The importance of fish can be traced in the Awadh's royal symbol 'Twin Fish' on many ancient buildings gates and monuments. It is said that earlier the emblem of two fishes facing each other was the symbol of the Sheikhs. Later on, Nawabs and the British as well adopted the same. You can see that even today, the fish emblem can be seen on many buildings and government seals of Lucknow. The UP State has also adopted the Twin Fish in the State Seal.
