Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan was founded on 7th November 1938, nearly a decade before India attained Independence, with the blessings of Mahatma Gandhi and co-operation and support of several stalwarts of India’s freedom movement. Translated into English, the name means “The abode of Indian studies”.

The Bhavan has grown from small beginnings into an apolitical, intellectual, cultural and educational movement across India and globally. There are more than 119 Centres in India and seven overseas branches.

The Thiruvananthapuram Kendra of the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, came into being in 1986, under the leadership of the Late Sooranad P N Kunjan Pillai. The Kendra emulates the Central Bhavan in all aspects, in keeping with the overall philosophy. The emphasis is on enlightening and empowering the individual. Education, thus, has taken the centre stage of the Kendra’s activities.

This School in Trivandrum started in 1987 in a small rented house at Chettikulangara in the City. Till 1988 the School along with the Kendra continued to operate from the rented premises at Chettikulangara in the City. Since then it has blossomed into a prestigious establishment for the Bhavan’s family. Presently the Kendra office and a nursery school function at its own premises at Poojappura.

The main school moved from rented accommodations at Chettikulangara, Vazhuthacaud, Vellayambalam and eventually to its own sprawling campus, spread over 2.79 acres at Kodunganoor the School has ample facilities for the advancement of curricular and co-curricular activities enabling the overall development of the children. Starting LKG and UKG, with a total strength of around 60 children, the School has travelled significant distance to become one of the most sought after institutions in the City, with more than 2300 children.

The School is affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education [CBSE] and runs classes from Std.I to Std.XII . There is also a separate Nursery section for LKG & UKG.

The Motto of the Bhavan is “Let noble thoughts come to us from every side.”
