Brasua Iron Mines was started in early sixty as captive mines of Rourkela Steel Plant. On January 19, 1954 Hindustan Steel Limited (HSL) was set up, which was initially designed to manage RSP.
Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP), the first integrated steel plant in the public sector in India, was set up with German collaboration with an installed capacity of 1 million tonnes in late 60s. Subsequently, its capacity was enhanced to 1.9 million tonnes.
RSP is in the last leg of a massive modernisation and expansion stage to achieve 4.5MT hot metal production.
