The Bengalee Association was founded by Shri P C Bose, Shri G D Hazra,Shri P K Mukherjee, Shri B P Ghosh, Shri G R Ghosh, Shri R L Dutta and Shri S K Roy on 16th September 1959 and registered under The Societies Act on the same day. Initially it came into existence in the form of a public Library named Bharati Pathagar in 1950.

Subsequently it was transformed into a cultural platform while performing Tagore's birth Anniversary. Ultimately the constitution was formulated and registered in 1959. The present building of the Association near Ulsoor Lake on Asseye Road was built in 1980 and has been expanded twice, once during 1995-96 and again in the year 2000. The Bengalee Association has two definite directions of its activities and services. Primarily it is a social commitment, a home away from home, a link between varied communities, a mouthpiece to the local administration and a solace to the people in distress. On the other hand, essentially it is a platform to propagate our rich cultural heritage, an arena to pursue integration of cultural diversity of our country, an institution to cultivate cultural passion.
