Asakiranam- A Cancer Support Initiative by QSSS 2.37

Asakiranam is a project under Quilon Social Service Society and it offers complete support to cancer patients. As a part of Asakiranam free Cancer Awareness cum Detection camps are conducted atleast twice a month.


Aim: ‘Towards creating awareness about cancer, detection and support to the deprived’.

Activities:
•Baseline survey to analyse the health situation
•Detection camps and awareness programs
•Monetary support for the client and guardian
•Counselling and guidance support through experts
•Palliative care for the most disadvantaged clients
•Promotion of healthy food habits and lifestyle
•Volunteers as ambassadors of this program
•QSSS as Help & Support desk for the clients

In the coming months, we are planning to arrange an Ambulance service for the cancer patients to travel from their residence to Regional Cancer Centre (RCC), Trivandrum and back to their places. Moreover, depending upon the need we are planning to establish a tie-up between RCC and our partner hospitals Benziger and Holy Cross Hospitals to become a spokes centre for cancer patients hailing from Kollam to undergo treatment to avoid the hurdle of traveling to Trivandrum for chemotherapy and other medical needs. In addition, we will develop network with like-minded organizations that supports cancer patients to ensure sustainability of this project.
