Aakar is the resplendent outcome of founder Sangeeta Sane’s interest in designing when she was a college student and her curiosity in the art of jewellery making when her friend told her about it. On a lark, Sangeeta stepped into the world of jewellery designing with pearl strings and tiny dangle earrings. She enjoyed this foray so much, she ventured deeper. With her curiosity sparked and interest piqued, Sangeeta learned everything she could by watching the experienced in her own personal circle, experimenting on her own and spending time with seasoned craftsmen. Her efforts blossomed into items that included wire jewellery, pieces with meenakari, pearls, kundan and zircon.

With passion as her fuel, Sangeeta’s pieces of art were lapped up by her relatives, colleagues and complete strangers! The orders began to pour in and Sangeeta just couldn’t keep up. She quickly decided to bid adieu her Master’s in Microbiology with its accompanying state level rank in Mumbai University and her profession as an educator. She embraced her passion of designing jewellery full-time.

Another major milestone in her early days was Sangeeta’s initial participation in the Mumbai GrahakPanchayat (MGP) event at Borivali, Mumbai. MGP, an internationally known organisation based in Mumbai, empowers consumers by creating awareness of their rights. At their regularly held exhibitions in and around Mumbai, about 80 companies are carefully selected by the organising committee. With thousands of visitors across all ages, a single MGP exhibition translates into many satisfied Aakar customers.

Aakar has a specialty to design custom made jewellery to suit any occasion as per client preferences. Our jewellery is made by craftsmen in Maharashtra and West Bengal who specialise in traditional ornaments. Our collection is from different parts of the country including royal kundan jewellery from Rajasthan and Gujarat, and South Indian temple jewellery created by South Indian craftsmen. You can choose your Wow! piece from an array made by Aakar, as well as from the variety of carefully hand-picked, and hand-made, pieces.
