ארטמיסיה היא גלריה עצמאית, מסחרית, שנותנת מקום ותמיכה לאמנות נשים איכותית, מבלי להגדיר או לתחום אותה, מתוך גישה אינקלוסיבית ומשוחררת. הבחירה שלנו להתמקד באמנות נשים קשורה בתשוקה, בטעם אישי, ובצורך הנוכחי לייצוג נשי בסצינת האמנות.
שיטת התצוגה שלנו בארטמיסיה היא שונה מהחלוקה המסורתית לתערוכות קבועות ומתחלפות. במקום, בחרנו לעבוד עם נושאים חודשיים שיעניקו כותרת-על רחבה, אבל מאגדת, למתרחש בגלריה.
בנוסף, בהשפעת מה שכינו חוקרות ומשוררות "זמן נשי"– בהתייחסן לזמן אחר, מעגלי, לא ליניארי– חילקנו את החלל של ארטמיסיה לשלושה אזורי זמן, שלכל אחד מהם מקצב ואופי שונים. החלוקה הזאת מאפשרת לנו להתייחס לנושא החודשי דרך שלוש שפות ופעימות שונות:
חלל התצוגה של הגלריה יאכלס תלייה בסגנון סלון צרפתי שמגלמת את רוח הריבוי והקולקטיב הנשי שאנחנו רוצות לקיים. העבודות מקבלות תוקף ומשמעות נוספים מתוך הסמיכות שלהן זו לזו ומתוך הזיקה שהן מקיימות עם הנושא שעל הפרק– יחסים שלא נועדו להיות השוואתיים, היררכיים או פרשניים.
קירות הגלריה הם קירות מגנטיים ומייצרים חלל תצוגה שהוא דינמי ומתחדש תמידית; בהתאם, התצוגה היא כזו שמסונכרנת לקצב החיים הנוכחי ולריבוי התכנים וההשראות מהם מורכב היום יום שלנו. לפעמים העבודות המוצגות הן בעלות קשר ישיר וחד משמעי לכותרת החודשית, אך פעמים אחרות הקשר יהיה אווירתי או מרומז בלבד.
בקומה השנייה של הגלריה אנחנו עורכות הרצאות וסדנאות בתחומי עניין שמצויים על סדר היום עבור נשים, ובפרט כאלה הקשורים לנושא החודשי באופן ספציפי. במרחב הזה אנחנו רוצות לתת מקום לזמן איטי יותר, דיאלוגי, קהילתי וחברתי.
"החדר" שבקומה השנייה הוא בעל חשיבות מיוחדת עבורנו. חדר זה יכיל את התמצית המרוכזת ביותר של הנושא החודשי של הגלריה. החדר יארח מיצבים ארוכי טווח של אמנית או של קבוצת אמניות בעבודות שישנו את המרחב ואפילו את ממד הזמן שבו, על פי רוב באמצעות חוויה אינטרקטיבית.
לצד כל אלה, האתר של הגלריה יהווה חלל נוסף, וירטואלי. הוא ישמש כמובן כמקור אינפורמטיבי עבור התערוכות, האירועים והסדנאות, אבל לצד זאת, יעלו בו בקביעות כתבות מגזין ומדורים קבועים שעוסקים בכל מה שמעניין אותנו. באתר נספר על הנושאים החודשיים הנבחרים שלנו, ניתן להם הקשר רחב ונציג את ההשראות שהובילו אליהם. דרך האתר ניתן יהיה להכיר בצורה ממוקדת ואינטימית יותר את היוצרות המציגות בארטמיסיה באמצעות ראיונות, צילומים, ותיעוד העבודות וחללי העבודה שלהן.

ARTEMISIA

Artemisia is an independent commercial gallery, dedicated to showcasing and supporting high quality art created by women, without seeking to define what is "feminine art". Our approach to art is inclusive, curious, and never didactic.
The choice to focus on art created by women has to do with our innermost passions, our personal taste, and of course – the ongoing need for more representation of women in the art scene.
Instead of exhibitions, the space will regularly showcase a variety of artwork by different women– both well-established and freshly graduated students– bound together by a monthly theme, and interpreted through each artist in her own media, technique and unique prism.
Many have written about "women's time"– time that isn't necessarily linear, that may go in circles and even backwards. This notion inspired us to divide the gallery into three time zones. Each space will relate to our monthly theme in a different language and rhythm.
In the main space we will regularly showcase a wide and diverse variety of works, hanging together in a French salon style. This style embodies the spirit of multiplicity and collectiveness we wish to create. This is meant to enhance the strength of each work individually, creating a dialogue between the works as well as with the monthly theme.
Our walls are all made with inner magnets, creating an exhibition space which is very dynamic, in synch with our fast pace of life and the way we consume different contents and inspirations.
Sometimes the art work showcased in this space will be connected to the monthly theme is a very direct, easy to detect way. Other times, the connection will be more subtle and mysterious.
On the second floor we will host different lectures and workshops that have to do with our lives and interests, and that specifically relate to our monthly theme. In this space we wish to inhabit a slower pace, a time for conversation, relationships, and community.
"The Room" on the second floor holds a special meaning for us. This is where you will find the most concentrated essence of our monthly theme. The room will host long term installations by an artist or a group of artists. These site specific works will change the space and the time of the room, and usually invite the visitors to an interactive experience.
In addition, the website is another space, a virtual one. It will be a source of information regarding everything that is going on in the gallery, but will also contain many different materials and articles about everything we find beautiful and interesting. In the website we will share our monthly themes, place them in a wider context and tell you about the inspirations that lead us to them. The website is also where you will be able to get to know our artists in a more intimate way, through photos and interviews.
