The tidy towns competition was established in 1958 and is organised by The department of environment, community and local government. The competition is the epitome of community spirit, with local people coming together to improve their local areas. Tidy towns inspire a huge amount of voluntary effort in towns and villages across the country, with now over eight hundred competition entries each year.
Westport have been very successful in the Tidy towns competition having been overall winners in 2001,2006 and 2008, and also receiving the large town award in 2003,2004,2008,2009,2012 and most recently in 2014, with special thanks to it's hard working and dedicated volunteers, committee, businesses and local community. Our aim is to continue to work together to keep Westport one of Irelands tidiest towns.
