Thurles railway station is near the centre of Thurles town, County Tipperary in Ireland. The station has two through platforms and one terminating platform. It is a major station on the Dublin-Cork line with an average of 17 trains in both directions daily.The station was the location of the arrest of William Smith O'Brien on 5 August 1848 while he was waiting for a train after an unsuccessful insurrection in Ballingarry in South Tipperary. There is a plaque at the station commemorating the event.The station opened on 13 March 1848.Thurles station has three times won the Irish Rail Best Intercity Station prize.
