The Three Steps Model of Therapeutic Intervention and Assessment: Informed by the Neuroscience of Attachment and Trauma

Common components incorporated in the Intensive Therapeutic Treatment Programme include:
The creation of a safe, stable, consistent and predictable living environment;
Highly skilled social care workers able to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team in promoting a therapeutic milieu;
Attachment and Trauma informed approach;
Individualised case planning based on comprehensive assessment of needs, and subject to a regular review process;
Maintaining the young person’s family, community and cultural connections as far as possible whilst they are in the programme;
Access to the range of specialist clinical services that might be required to achieve the objectives identified in individuals care plans, and provide consultation and advice to social care workers;
Understanding that the challenging behaviours of young people often has its basis in past traumatic experiences, and that this is taken into account when responding to the behaviour so as to avoid inadvertently inflicting further trauma;
Availability of support for young people when they transition and exit from the programme.
