Founded by St Kieran as a monastic city in the 6th century, Clonmacnoise was the leading centre of excellence in Celtic design, its Craftsmen were the leading exponents in the known world. It contained a Scriptorium in which the Monks painstakingly illustrated Bibles and Books. Stonemasons created the World famous Celtic Crosses. Goldsmiths and Silversmiths flourished and created wonderful Croziers, Jewellery and Ornaments which are revered to this day
