Tearmann Healing Centre
Tearmann Healing Centre in Ballyheigue, Co. Kerry has been a safe and secure haven offering counselling and psychotherapy to individuals and couples as well as courses and workshops on various aspects of mind, body and spirit since 1999.
Tearmann is the Gaelic word for sanctuary and that is what is offered at the centre – a place of welcome and kindness, a place of nourishment and hope, a trusting and heart-centred environment that combines professional competence and deep care for each person.

Josephine Fitzgibbon, a fully qualified and accredited psychotherapist, runs the centre with her husband, Michael Joyce. Both Michael and Josephine have extensive experience in facilitating workshops and groups on various themes – healing, spirituality, environmental awareness.

Counselling and Psychotherapy
Counselling offers a secure and non-judgemental environment for dealing with personal difficulties and issues. These may be specific, e.g. relationship problems, eating disorders, or general, e.g. anxiety, fear, low self-esteem. Our approach is tailored to suit the needs of each individual person enabling them to move beyond their difficulties and connect with their strength and potential.

Psychotherapy ( care of the soul ) offers a safe and supportive space for exploring life issues and problems. These problems sometimes present as physical symptoms, emotional pain, unhealthy behaviour patterns or lack of purpose in life.

In both counselling and psychotherapy, the relationship between the person seeking help and the therapist / counsellor is vital.

Our approach is humanistic and person-centred and cherishes the dignity, vulnerability and potential of each person.

Our approach is also biodynamic. There is active encouragement for the life force within – which may be hidden and repressed through various traumas and experiences – to express itself and so lead to a greater degree of joy and fulfilment.

In our experience, counselling / psychotherapy are of great benefit in dealing with the following:

Depression
Anxiety
Panic Attacks
Bereavement
Stress
Low Self-Esteem
Childhood Traumas
Sexual Abuse
Suicidal Thoughts
Spiritual Crises
Fear Anger
Work & Relationship Issues
Eating Disorders

Biodynamic Massage
The term biodynamic refers to our life force that moves us and brings us to life – physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.Biodynamic massage was developed initially by Gerda Boyesen, a Norwegian psychologist and physiotherapist who was interested in body-mind responses and saw the mind and body as inter-functioning aspects of the one biodynamic development.

The Benefits of Biodynamic Massage.

Biodynamic Massage works with the energy or life force of the body. The body has its own healing powers and Biodynamic Massage supports this natural process. Regular massage helps us to regulate our stress levels, nourishing us and helping us to feel more fully alive. Headache, back pain, arthritis and many other symptoms can be relieved or eliminated as trapped energy and toxic wastes are released from the body. Even for those without obvious physical aches or ailments, touch is as essential to health and wellbeing as is food to water.

Biodynamic Massage and Psychotherapy.

Biodynamic Massage is also used in conjunction with counselling and psychotherapy. The principle of Biodynamic Psychotherapy is that mind and body function together in an emotional process, and that traumatic experiences can build up chronic physical and psychological blocks.

This holding often manifests as tight or slack muscles, aches and pains, a general lack of energy and enthusiasm for life or unhealthy behaviour patterns. By working with the chronic blocks, body work with counselling or psychotherapy can help us to release and deal with suppressed feelings, leaving us freer to enjoy life more fully.

What is peristalsis and psychoperistalsis?

In biodynamic massage, the gut is seen as having a double function – to digest food and to digest stress. Peristalsis is the spontaneous wave-like motion of the intestine as it digests food. Psychoperistalsis is the name given to the digestion of stress. By using a stethoscope, the therapist can hear these actions. Whe the energy is flowing freely, the psychoperistalsis is fully functioning and the body is better able to cope with stress.

The Web of Life

Connecting spirituality, ecology and paths of personal growth.

To “ stand beautifully on the earth “, as the late John Moriarty put it, is Web of Life, spirituality, ecology and paths of personal growth. to challenge ourselves to live in right relationship with all life-forms on the planet. Not just as people who can use the resources around us wisely for the benefit of all but also to chart a way forward so that we can leave a worthy legacy for future generations.

There is a need to step back, to celebrate the mystery and energy in all things, to lament what is being ignored or lost and to re-evaluate our spiritualities and meaning systems in order to foster this right relationship.

This experiential 2-day workshop will have elements of meditation, connecting with nature, story, input, ritual, creative expression and reflective exercises. It is an invitation to name what is important and relate our personal growth to the well-being of the whole planet in a reflective atmosphere of humility and respect.

A Healing Fountain
This one-day workshop draws on poetry therapy, guided A healing fountain meditation, creative drawing and movement in order to explore issues and themes that are relevant to your life’s journey. Sometimes we are uncertain about life directions and decisions, there are old wounds and resentments that hold us back, there are periods of lostness, despair and loneliness. There are also, perhaps, unexplored avenues of hope, risks that we want to take with courage, new beginnings that beckon and edges of experience that evoke wonder and potential joy and hope.
With a firm focus on healing and hope, this workshop will be helpful for anyone who is asking questions and seeking insight about their current life situation.

Your Body Speaks its mind
Our bodies hold the memory of all our life experiences both positive and negative. Unresolved issues can manifest as restriction, holding or armour in our bodies and can contribute to dis-ease and illness.
Listening to the wisdom of the body and working with it in an attentive and compassionate way can help resolve these inner conflicts, release energy blocks and connect us more deeply with our unique life force.
We offer an experiential and reflective 2-day workshop grounded in biodynamic psychology and drawing on insights from a wide variety of body oriented sources.

In a safe and nurturing environment opportunities will be provided for

Renewing and deepening our connection with our unique bodymind
Exploring creative ways of looking at patterns, postures and armour that limit us
Enjoying our capacity to be fully alive in an embodied way
