The school was opened in 2002. The classes began in Glenfarne and Killargue with a small group of founding students and has since expanded through North Leitrim and the surrounding counties. The school has become somewhat of a family and has previously been noted on how close the students and families of the school are. Since the school opened, Kathleen has opened many doors for some of the dancers of the school, with television appearances on shows such as Star Stream, The Den and An Jig Gig. Along with these, the senior and advanced dancers of the school have competed in open competitions as part of a team and as solo dancers, including The All Scotland Championships, The All Irelands, The World Gaelic Games and The Great Britain’s. The school is also proud to say they have competed in the world championships. In 2004, for the first time, the school brought a team of dancers to Ennis to perform a dance Drama entitled “The Fairy Tree” on a world stage. The following year came the production of “King Laurence’s Asses Ears” at the world championships in Belfast. In 2006 and 2007, the schools senior dancers qualified and danced in the senior mixed ceili competition at the worlds in Belfast and Glasgow respectively. in 2014, the school brought a junior and Senior Dance Drama team to the London World Championships, who placed in the top 6, a huge achievement. The school has also produced a number of solo championship dancers, who have Ulster, Chonnacht, All Ireland, Great Britain, All Scotland, Irish National and World titles.
In 2015 Kathleen expanded the faculties at the dance school to include dance club classes, these classes offer an introduction to varoius forms of dance, Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Hip-hop, musical threatre, Sean-nos, Acro and Lyrical. The schools ethos is geared more towards dancing for fun and fitness, making dancing accessible for all and offering alternative outlets for students to record their progression. We offer the schools own unique examinations programmes, CLRG accredited Irish Dancing examinations, Class competitions, termly recitals and an annual St Patrick's Day Concert. The school continues to support open competitions and has close links with local schools that focus purely on competition for future transition. The school participates and performs at functions and events and are always looking for new ways to open doors for the young dancers and showcase the schools talent and ability.
The school runs an annual Open CLRG Championship -the first weekend of September -The Glens of Leitrim Championships.
Kathleen also offers Classes/workshops for Primary and Secondary Schools, Choreography services for parades, plays and exhibitions. No project is too big or too small.
