St. Patrick’s Church - A Brief History
The present Saint Patricks Church was officially opened on Sunday 26th November 1899.
The first Administrator of the new Saint Patrick’s was Fr. Richard Keoghan who was appointed in 1894 while the old Saint Patrick’s Church was still in use. Fr Joseph Murphy who was appointed Curate in 1895 ably assisted him. The old church was situated at Chapel Lane. No trace of it remains today except the stone Holy Water Stoups in the wall at the entrance to Lanigan’s house.
The remains of the late Dr. Brownrigg, who was responsible for the building of St. Patrick’s, lies buried within the church.
