A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THE RÓISÍN DUBH.

Róisín Dubh is undoubtedly one of the best music and comedy venues in the country, bringing established talent to the city, while also providing a stage for emerging artists. With a great atmosphere, wonderful staff, and a real commitment and passion to music and comedy, it's one of the best places to see the best national and international acts around.

Róisín Dubh has long been the home of comedy in Galway. Many great acts including Stewart Lee, Phill Jupitus & Rich Hall, list it as being one of their top 10 venues in the world.

Roisin Dubh is also the driving force behind the Galway Comedy Festival.

For over 12 years, Strange Brew has been running on Thursday nights. One of Ireland’s longest running club nights, it has been instrumental in providing a stage to the more alternative spectrum of artists that would not have a platform to play otherwise in a town where most venues prefer to take an easier, blander approach to live music. Many of the most successful alternative acts in Ireland today, such as Two Door Cinema Club, Villagers, Le Galaxie, Delorentos, Jape & And So I Watch You From Afar, all started out playing free shows at Strange Brew in Roisin Dubh on Thursday nights.

Róisín Dubh also brings a huge selection of acts to other venues, presenting music and comedy in Seapoint, Town Hall Theatre and the Black Box, as well as co promoting the Galway International Arts Festival Big Top.

Comedy at Róisín Dubh

Róisín Dubh has long been the home of comedy in Galway. Many great acts including Stewart Lee, Phill Jupitus & Rich Hall, list it as being one of their top 10 venues in the world. Regular comedy goers will have been lucky enough over the years to see the likes of Jack Whitehall, Kevin Bridges or Sarah Millican when they were starting out, not forgetting the now legendary shows from Doug Stanhope & Jim Jefferies. Roisin Dubh also brings some of the biggest names in comedy to Galway including shows from Michael McIntyre, Lee Evans and Alan Carr. They curate the Galway Comedy Festival every year with such greats as Tommy Tiernan, Tim Minchin & Dylan Moran.

Strange Brew

For over 10 years, Strange Brew has been running on Thursday nights, moving to Róisín Dubh from its original home in the beloved Warwick in 2006. One of Ireland’s longest running club nights, it has been instrumental in providing a stage to the more alternative spectrum of artists that would not have a platform to play otherwise in a town where most venues prefer to take an easier, blander approach to live music. Many of the most successful alternative acts in Ireland today, such as Two Door Cinema Club, Villagers, Le Galaxie, Delorentos, The Cast Of Cheers, Jape & And So I Watch You From Afar, all started out playing free shows at Strange Brew in Roisin Dubh on Thursday nights, as did the likes of Frightened Rabbit, Foals and more. It’s widely regarded as one of the go-to club nights in Ireland for people interested in finding new, interesting and exciting music.

Silent Disco

Silent Disco is now a big part of late nights at Róisín Dubh – during the college year; there is generally a queue out the door on a Tuesday night. During term time, it’s on every Tuesday and Wednesday (the Wednesday takes a break for the summer), and there is also one once a month on a Saturday. There is no judgement at Silent Disco. Come along to hear music you love, music you love to hate and all your guilty pleasures. It’s good wholesome fun.

And you really won’t want to miss the now legendary Silent Disco Street Parties – the next one is on August 4th.

Late Nights

Róisín Dubh is one of the most popular late night bars in town – for good reason. Wednesday nights for the summer features live music from the likes of The Converse Allstars, The Rye, Mikey & The Scallywags and more.

Strange Brew on Thursdays for indie beats, alternative rock and good vibrations from past, the present and the not too distant future with gugai.

Friday nights features rotating residencies from Mashole (bootlegs, mashups and bastard pop with Phil Retrospector), 110th STREET PRESENTS THE HIVE (disco, house, hip-hop, Italo, techno, electro-pop, post-punk, new wave or lost classics), SHUFFLE (Soul & Funk with Dave Barry), DJ KORMAC (Scratch, hip hop, av extravaganza) and THE DISCONAUTS (Deep space disco: Lunar house intergalactic funk: Klingon classics).

Saturday nights is the powerful combination of indie, hip hop, funk and rock from the one and only GRAHAM DOLAN, with space disco and dance with MICK DATA upstairs.

HIP HOP CLASSICS and more on Sunday nights with the indefatigable Graham Dolan, DJ FUZ plays a selection of indie, post punk, new wave and more on Mondays. ?

Tuesdays, it’s the legendary SILENT DISCO with gugai & Ted.

OPEN MIC ON SUNDAYS

Primarily located in the upstairs bar at Roisin Dubh, (there is a big fancy one downstairs once a month) the OPEN MIC gives performers the unique opportunity perform in an intimate room with an adoring audience.

Whether you are a comedian, dancer, opera-singer, magician, singer-songwriter, Bruce Willis look-a-like or anything else for that matter....come in and hone your talents at Open Night at Roisin Dubh.
