New Island started out as Raven Arts Press under Dermot Bolger’s stewardship in the 1980s.

Today, under publisher Edwin Higel, New Island retains its commitment to literature and literary publishing. Over the years we have been responsible for discovering and publishing many new authors, as well as revitalising the careers of established authors. We are always actively promoting our publications in all literary areas, from fiction to drama to poetry, while maintaining our consistently high levels of non-fiction publishing, especially in the areas of social affairs and biographies.
