The MMT programme is a full-time, two year course. The first year is a self-contained Postgraduate Diploma course which provides the necessary music, video, computational and technological skills to allow creative individuals to engage in computer-assisted audio-visual composition and production, engage in audio signal processing system design, apply software tools for the music and media industries and/or enter the arena of media production.

The second year Masters course, which is open to those achieving a sufficient standard in their Diploma exams, provides a number of advanced subject options in related fields and has a greater research orientation requiring the completion of a research project in the second semester.

The objective of the MMT programme is to provide a thorough grasp of the principles and applications of computer, audio and video technologies in combination with significant artistic exposure in media related topics, with a particular emphasis on Music and on the combination of music with other media elements. Through a combination of exam and assignment-based work Music and Media creativity is stimulated and developed over the two years of the programme, culminating in a final thesis which features significant original contribution of a technological and/or artistic nature.

The breadth of coverage and the core/options structure are characteristic features of the MMT programme. A strong foundation is provided which permits student orientation within the broad area of Music and Media Technologies, with specialization in those aspects which are found most interesting individually. All students emerge with a strong grounding in the scientific and technological principles relating to audio, video and computation, and with well-developed music/artistic sensibilities and skills within the context of New Media work.
