Mountain View Garden Centre is family run business, Imelda and John Bannon are the brains behind the ever growing business. It’s located in the beautiful West Cavan country side, between Bawnboy village and Ballyconnell town, in the townland of Killywaum at the base of Slieve Rushen mountain. The mountain that runs along the boarder of County Cavan in the republic of Ireland and County Fermanagh in northern Ireland which is a always beautiful sight in Killywaum. This mountain is where the business got it’s name originally.

The establishment started over a decade ago with barely one tunnel and Imelda’s passion for gardening and the outdoors. The business formed as Imelda’s hobby flourished, initially the garden centre only supplied a limited range of summer bedding and hanging basket plants. Now it has a shop, a large venue, eight tunnels, and is opened all year round with a vast variation of winter and summer bedding plants, shrubs, trees, hedging plants, decorative potting, pond plants, seeds, bulbs, and all sorts of gardening and landscaping tools and materials that you could need.

Last year in 2016, the revamp of the ‘front’ of the garden centre was almost finally completed, with the shop, large display tunnel and shed being paired with a smooth cemented ground flooring. In 2017 John and Imelda intend to put their focus to the ‘back’ of the garden centre as they construct a large new tunnel for the increased amount of bedding and hanging plants, and also relocate the trees to a larger area for the new variations of trees they are going to supply and for much better ease of access, they also have plans to complete the ‘front’ of the garden centre with new gates and railings.

For a few years at the start Imelda was using her own knowledge and interest of gardening to develop the business, but swiftly there came a point where passion, trail and error, and passed down tricks of gardening wasn’t enough to keep up with the growing business. Imelda went back to university to strengthen her expertise in the area and graduated with a horticultural degree. So when you’re looking for advice, she really has the background to help.
