The McCormack family have been farming in Killenbore, Colehill, Co. Longford for seven generations, spanning over 200 years. When Niall McCormack took up the challenge of carrying on this proud tradition, he realised he would have to adapt for the future. Economic realities made it necessary to diversify from traditional farming methods and Niall Mc Cormack began growing strawberries in 1990, followed by turnips and leeks in 2010 and raspberries and blueberries in 2015. He now also supplies bedding plants. We are a NSAI Bord Bia approved strawberry farm so that from plant to plate we employ the most rigorous standards. We use the most up-to-date methods of production to produce a nutritious and healthy crop of strawberries.McCormack Fruit produce over 50 tonnes of fresh strawberries each season and all the straberries we supply are grown here on our own farm. The season lasts from May to October and we supply a lot of this fruit locally but also to the west of Ireland, Dublin and even as far north as Derry. We grow over eleven miles of strawberries, cropped twice in a season or over 3.5 million strawberries, that’s a lot of strawberries for our dedicated staff to pick!! All our strawberries are produced under cover and this guarantees a quality product regardless of the unpredictability of the Irish weather.
We pride ourselves in growing succulent strawberries, renowned for their sweetness and juicy flavour. We pick daily, grade, package and refrigerate within a few hours of picking. Because we are close to our customer base, our strawberries are fresher when they reach the shop shelves. Our central location in the Midlands ensures a quick delivery. We supply the bulk of our 50 tonne crop locally. Strawberries from our farm are found in many different types of outlets; local SuperValu stores, local shops and on the menu of local restaurants and hotels. We also sell directly from our farm where customers can purchase strawberries at really competitive prices. We employ 20 people during the strawberry season.
