Established in 1972 by Mr Matt O’Flaherty, the Matt O’Flaherty Chemists group opened its first outlet in Galway Shopping Centre. Since then, Matt O’Flaherty Chemists has become a market leader in the greater Galway region. As the only chain of scale in the area, the Group commands significant brand recognition from a wide customer base.
The Group has a highly diversified sales mix across all of the State payment schemes, private prescriptions and front of shop sales.

In addition to selling standard pharmaceutical products, the Group has a number of premium cosmetic agency agreements in the Greater Galway region including Lancôme, Clarins, Shiseido, Chanel, etc some shared with Brown Thomas and Debenhams. In addition, the Group provides photography services in all of its stores.

Over the years, the group experienced good organic growth at its established pharmacy businesses at Galway Shopping Centre, William Street and Eyre Square and in 2005 it embarked upon an expansion program with new openings in the satellite town of Moycullen.
