With over seven years experience working with children with a range of developmental delays, Marita is an expert in designing and delivering individualised developmental programmes: working on areas such as receptive and expressive language, social skills,motor skills, play skills and self help skills.
Marita has a Maters of Education in Autism and Learning from Aberdeen University and a BA Honours Degree in Early Childhood Studies.
Marita uses a play based behaviour approach called Pivotal Response Treatment. Its goals include the development of communication, language and positive social behaviours. Marita also has certifications in a range of other approaches used with children with developmental differences such as;. The Early Start Denver Model (ESDM); a comprehensive behavioral early intervention approach for children with autism, ages 12 to 48 months. The Derbyshire Language scheme; an assessment and intervention used for children who present with a language delay. Lámh; a manual sign system used by children and adults with intellectual disability and communication needs in Ireland and DIR/Floortime; a child centred play based approach . Marita is also a registered member of the Teaching Council of Ireland.
