Physical Therapy is based on Osteopathy. Only by aligning the skeleton and the muscles affected in an injury can a complete recovery be achieved.
To achieve this we treat not only the site of injury but above and below to ensure contributing factors are resolved. For example knee pain can be caused by a hip dysfunction. If the Hip dysfunction is not addressed then only treating the knee would not fully resolve the issue.
Physical therapy uses several techniques to create a multi-disciplinary treatment plan.
The first stage of this plan is to understand the patients current and previous medical history, current medication etc. to get an understanding of possible contributing factors, this is incorporated in the first consultation and treatment.
By using orthopedic and neurological techniques, proper diagnosis can be achieved. These are simple and not difficult for the patient to do but are essential to ruling out or confirming suspected conditions.
Once diagnosis is confirmed, a teatment plan is developed and explained to the patient, this will involve some or all of the following as required. Neuromuscular Therapy, Muscle energy Techniques, Dry Needling, Faradic muscle stimulation, Joint mobilisation and manipulation , Infrared Heat treatment, Remedial massage and home care advice.
