The first Living Links group was set up in Cloughjordan, Co. Tipperary in 2002, when a small group of people got together in response to a suicide in the community. These people felt a huge sense of inadequacy as to how to provide appropriate community support to the bereaved family. As a consequence to this, there was a sense of failure in the whole community.
Thus Living Links was founded by retired Garda sergeant Michael Egan, parish priest Rev.Fr. Tom Hannon, local GP Dr. Roisin Costello, clerical officer Carmel Tuohy and teachers Noreen Spain and Noreen Duggan.
Today, there are fifteen branches of Living Links providing support in nineteen counties nationwide, and we continue to train new members, the latest training course having taken place in Dublin in October 2013. It is a requirement of the Living Links organisation that volunteers take part in a four-day intensive training course before beginning to work with their local group.
