No matter by which road you enter Killarney the view is the first thing that takes your breath away! But one can't holiday on views alone!! So!. around Killarney you can walk somewhere different every day, take fun, well informed boat trips on the lakes, cycle around Muckross and Dinis, walk up Torc Waterfall,tour the beautiful Muckross House or Ross Castle, visit the oldest copper mines in Europe, walk woodland trails covered in carpets of bluebells and wild garlic,take the Ghost Bus, go to the playground or the pet farms, go horse racing, golfing, fishing,run a marathon! Do an enviromental camp or learn to cook. Choose from numerous restaurants to eat in, stay in anything from 5*Hotels to fantastic hostels and well kept caravan and camping parks. On bad days swim in the fantastic public pool, check out the Cineplex, take the kids to Buddies, get your hair done, laze in a spa, shop til your drop, see what the INEC has to offer,go to painting classes....and that's just around the town! Come by car, bus, bike, train or walk! its a Tidy Town, a really friendly town and it's magnetic!! Gotta keep coming back for more!!

Stunning Inch and Rossbeigh Beaches are 30mins drive away, Guides are always available to take you up Ireland's highest mountain, Carrantuohill or the many mountains of the McGillicuddy Reeks & Gillies are always available to take people fishing on the 3 beautiful Lakes of Killarney. Drive to Kenmare over Molls Gap and see Ladies View on the way. Go through the Gap of Dunloe by pony&trap and return by boat from Lord Brandons Cottage to Ross Castle on the Long Range River, walk the Old Kenmare Road and the rest of the Kerry Way. Eat in Dinis Cottage or the Deenagh Lodge, both old hunting lodges. Visit Star Outdoors activity center or Cappanalea Activity center. See the view from Aghadoe,visit Pugins Cathedral, Check out the Meeting of the Waters, Muckross Traditional Farms, Inisfallen Island, Muckross Abbey.
Environment
Killarney town is surrounded by Killarney National Park 102.89 km2 (25,425 acres) of diverse ecology, including the Lakes of Killarney, Oak and Yew woodlands of international importance, and mountain peaks. It has Ireland's only native herd of Red Deer and the most extensive covering of native forest remaining in Ireland. The mountains really stand out no matter where you go in town and the views of the lakes as you drive from Muckross to Kenmare is visually spectacular.
Activities
you can swim indoors all year and on the very accessible beaches of Inch and Rossbeigh too if the mood takes you! Learn to surf on Inch beach. Walking in and around Killarney is spectacular and for all ages and abilities. There are many Cycling tracks off road through the National Park and some great Mountain Biking trails. There are many local guides involved in taking people hiking & walking. Golf on 2 Championship 18 hole course in Killarney Golf Club,
Culture
Siamsa Tire, our National Folk Theatre, is only half an hour away in Tralee and has an amazing program all year. St. Mary Church of Ireland in Killarney Town also has a great tradition of hosting evenings of music. The INEC on the Muckross Road has something for everyone nearly all year, you can dance Traditional sets nearly every night in Killarney in different venues, the summerfest is always a huge hit and the Christmas in Killarney Festival is not to be missed. The 5 screen Cineplex offers a great mix of viewing, and there are many beautiful galleries to browse through. There is live traditional music most nights in the pubs in summer and in a select few during the winter months. Muckross House has a series of evening talks worth checking out and there are two fantastic shows to see, Liam O Connors and Celtic Steps.
Families
There is a beautiful playground on the edge of the National Park near St Mary's Cathedral and this is ringed by the new cycle and walking path which is suitable for inline skates, buggies, wheelchairs, bikes and shanks mare! The public swimming pool in on the main Cork/Tralee bypass road with free parking and a 25m pool, kiddies pool, large gym, sauna and steam room. they also do summer camps. Kennedys Pet Farm & Coolwood Wildlife Park are worth a visit. Muckross Traditional Farms is not to be missed! and of course the Rockery in Muckross have had kids running around them since long before I was a little girl and that's not today or yesterday! Buddies have a great setup for kids and for those waiting for them! Take the covered boat trips or the open boats and have a picnic on Innisfallen. the latest attraction proving to be a massive hit is the High Ropes based in the woodlands in the grounds of the Hostel in Fossa.
Transport
you can hire almost anything you want in Killarney - bikes of all kinds, cars, boats and people to take you out in them! Fishing rods, and Iceskates during the Christmas Festival. The trains run straight into the center of town as do the buses. Kerry Airport is only 15mins from Killarney. The roads from all directions are really good now and its easy to find your way around once you are here as signage has been much improved.

The center of town has lovely shoe and clothes shops and many gift shops and beautiful jewellery & photo shops. there are some lovely wine shops and delicatessens too. There are 3 shopping parks on the outskirts of town and an outlet center at the bus and train stations.
