International English language basketball camp - IELBC 3.09

The Players 1st Sports Management English Language Basketball Camp offers players a great opportunity to develop their basketball and language skills in a unique Irish setting. In addition to learning from top-quality basketball coaches, participants will receive expert English language instruction from TOEFL-certified teachers.

Content.
Basketball

Players will be instructed by a variety of domestic and international coaches. Their daily on-court activities will include individual workouts (skill and fitness-based), team practices, games and contests. Additionally, guest speakers will be brought in to lecture on themed basketball topics, such as team strategy, nutrition and strength/conditioning, with group discussions being encouraged

English

Students will receive fifteen hours of English instruction over five days. They will take a placement test on day one to assess their current ability and will then be placed in mixed nationalities classes with others at their level. We cater for all levels from beginners to advanced, while employing experiential learning as an educational tool: participants will be encouraged to speak English as much as possible beyond the classroom in order to enhance their learning experience. Basketball-related vocabulary will also comprise a portion of the instruction. At the end of the week, they will receive a certificate acknowledging their language level

Cultural

Chaperoned outings will be offered over the weekend. This includes structured tours (such as the hop on-hop off double-decker bus), as well as casual exploration on foot. Dublin's most famous sights include:

Venue
St Columba’s is a co-educational day and boarding school located in Whitechurch, Dublin 16. During the school year, it caters for over three hundred 11-18 year olds and offers academic, athletic, artistic and cultural opportunities. The 140-acre campus contains a well-equipped sports hall for basketball, fitness suite, outdoor swimming pool and nine-hole golf course. Boys and girls are accommodated separately in dormitories, with two, four or six people per room. Each “dorm” has its own en-suite toilets and washrooms, as well as common rooms, kitchens, computer areas and free wi-fi. Bed linen will be provided for students and laundry services are available. In addition to the cafeteria serving three meals daily, there is a tuck-shop.

Dates and Cost
The camp is run over a two-week period in July/August 2014, with campers having the option of attending one or two weeks.

Week 1:
Arrival on Sunday evening, July 20th.
Camp runs from July 21st (Monday) to 25th (Friday).
Departure on Saturday morning, July 26th.

Weekend:
Campers can stay through the weekend in order to explore the beautiful city of Dublin. This can be done as an end to Week 1 (for Week 1 campers), a beginning to Week 2 (for Week 2 campers) or a connection between between the two weeks (for those staying for two weeks). There will be an additional cost depending on the excursions selected and extra nights on campus.

Week 2:
Arrival on Sunday evening, July 27th.
Camp runs from July 28th (Monday) to August 1st (Friday).
Departure on Saturday morning, August 2nd.
