Hatala Mosaics 3.4

My name is Eszter Hatala I've lived in Ireland since 2006. I am a self-taught mosaic artist.
In 2007 I began to experiment with a clay but I discovered that my real interest lay in using discarded materials and recycling them. Around this time I saw an exhibition of the work of an English mosaic artist. His work really inspired me to design large mosaic portraits using discarded ceramic tiles. I also started to experiment with newspaper and how it could be used as a replacement for traditional basket weaving.
I discovered the work of a Hungarian artist who creates beautiful boxes using eggshell mosaic and on my return to Ireland I decided to explore this method in my large portait work.
I am passionate about my Art & Craft and takes great pride in every individual piece that I produce.
