Downstrands Women's Group 2.72

Downstrands Women’s Group was originally formed in 1997 and after 2 years of meeting in the Inishkeel Hall in Portnoo went on to lease the old Kilclooney National School building. The Women’s Group were the first group in the area to put on Adult Education classes and Computer classes were held there. A suite of computers were purchased and the group was the first in the area to go online. The community library then developed with the help of donations and the assistance of the County Library.
The group was successful for many years but numbers dwindled as many people moved away and eventually the Group stopped meeting.
