Carrowhugh Cottages is the perfect getaway for those interested in a short break in the heart of Donegal. The properties are quintessentially traditional, perfect for couples, families or friends seeking a holiday by the sea.

About 2km north east of Greencastle, on the slopes of a hill called Crocknasmug, Carrowhugh Cottages overlook the mouth of Lough Foyle. Looking across the bay into Northern Ireland, this is the narrowest point across the Foyle before it broadens into a wide expanse of water that only narrows again as it approaches Derry and turns into the River Foyle.

The views are spectacular, and one can see across to the pier at Magilligan Point, where the ferry from Greencastle makes its connection, the lovely stretch of beach known as Benone Strand, and the Mussenden Temple, perched precariously on the edge of a cliff at Downhill, on to the Seaside resort of Port Stewart.

The two cottages have their similarities and differences.
One is a traditional style thatch, (with blue doors) which originally only had two rooms, but now has a slate roofed extension which doubles its size, allowing for the inclusion of an additional bedroom and a bathroom. It comprises 2 bedrooms, a bathroom, a sitting room, and a large kitchen-living room area. It has retained much of its original look, with authentic furnishings and decoration to match the period, - and will delight anyone who fancies spending some time in an original Irish cottage.

The other cottage (with green doors) is a pleasing, modern, compact two storey dwelling, with 3 upstairs bedrooms and a separate toilet, a downstairs bathroom, fully equipped kitchen area with sitting room and fireplace. Both cottages have oil fired central heating.
