Sensei Kevin Collins started karate when he was 11 years old in 1979 along with his brother Sensei Stephen Collins. He achieved his Shodan (1st degree black belt) in 1983 aged 15 and three years later achieved his Nidan (2nd black belt) under the famous Sensei Keinosuke Eneoda. He stopped regular training in 1992 for a number of years due to work and raising his family. Working on a oil rig makes getting to the Dojo difficult. After years of training on-and-off, he made his "official" return to karate in 2008 and achieved his Sandan (3rd Dan) in 2010, followed by his Yondan (4th Dan) in 2014.

He has won numerous junior and senior All-Ireland titles in both Kata & Kumite and has represented Ireland in 5 European championships, even coming out of retirement at aged 43 to win the over 21 all-Ireland kumite.

His son Steve Collins started karate in 2004 aged 10 and achieved his Shodan in 2011 aged 16, followed by his Nidan in 2014 and his Sandan in 2017. He also teaches at the Crosshaven Dojo and regularly competes in both national and international tournaments.
