Co. Carlow VEC Student Grants 1.82

County Carlow VEC administers the following Grants Schemes:

1) VEC Scholarship Scheme for students attending:

• Honours Degree and Post Graduate Courses at Universities in Ireland for students who have already obtained a Higher Certificate or Ordinary Degree

• Honours Degree and Post Graduate Courses at Institutes of Technology

• Degree Courses in Universities in other EU Member States for students who have already obtained a Higher Certificate or Ordinary Degree

2) Third Level Maintenance Grants Scheme for Trainees (TLT) for students attending:

• Higher Certificate and Ordinary Degree at Institutes of Technology

Maintenance Grants Scheme for Post Leaving Certificate Courses (PLC) for students attending:

• Full-time approved courses at approved PLC Colleges

3) PLC Grants are available to students undertaking full-time approved Post Leaving Certificate Courses in Colleges/Schools offering such courses. Here in County Carlow such courses are currently being run in Carlow Vocational School/Carlow Institute of Further Education, Muinebheag Vocational School, Borris Vocational School, Coláiste Eoin Hacketstown and Tullow Community School.

** Special Rate of Maintenance Grants payable to Disadvantaged Grant holders

The Special Rate of Maintenance Grant (Top-Up Grant) is administered alongside the above three Schemes. Once a student qualifies for the ordinary maintenance grant their application is automatically assessed for Top-Up. The main requirement for this grant is that the Parents/Guardians, or in the case of an Independent Mature Student, is (are) in receipt of a Department of Social Welfare qualifying payment. This grant also has its own reckonable income limit and is means tested.
