Clarehall Shopping Centre is a shopping centre located in the Clarehall residential area of North Dublin which it is coincidentally named after. The centre is anchored by one of Ireland’s first Tesco Extra stores, which opened in 2006.HistoryIn March 2000, Tesco began planning to build a "£20 million shopping centre" in Dublin 17. The application for planning approval replaced a previous one for a single store on the site, but it was ignored. Tesco was believed to have paid around £12 million for the 10-acre site, which had been occupied by the Clare Manor Hotel, previously a country house known as Claregrove House (of which the Icehouse still remains). Over one year later, Tesco was still applying for planning permission as it was rejected by Dublin City Corporation as Tesco's request was for a shopping centre to replace existing planning permission for a standalone store. The shopping centre officially opened in the summer of 2004 after years of disputes regarding the size of the centre among various other factors.
