Canalaphonic 4.76

Canalaphonic will take place on Friday 8th and Saturday 9th May, throughout Portobello and Rathmines.
On Friday and Saturday evening from 5 – 9.30pm, bands will play on a barge at Portobello Harbour, followed by a wide range of gigs and club nights of differing sizes and genres in 15 venues throughout the area.
In addition on Saturday, to coincide with the arrival of barges participating in the Inland Waterways Association of Ireland’s Dublin Rally, there will be a boutique market at Portobello Harbour from 12 – 4pm, along with barge trips, and family fun activities.
A second stage will be in place from 12- 5pm at Rathmines Plaza which will feature trad musicians from Rathmines College, with childrens activities taking place at the front of St Marys College. Mart (the old Rathmines fire station) will host a 20 piece jazz swing band at 7pm on Saturday.
Throughout the festival there will be art/craft exhibitions, markets, pop up acoustic sets and guerrilla spoken word performances throughout Rathmines and Portobello, and local cafés, restaurants, take aways etc., will be offering discounted prices to festival attendees.
The festival will provide an outlet for unsigned and independent musicians, artists and performers. Festival goers will have a staggering choice of gigs to attend on both evenings with genres such as rock, blues, indie, mod, roots, trad, swing, singer/songwriter, comedy and spoken word taking place in intimate venues, in addition to outdoor markets, art exhibitions and children’s entertainment on Saturday afternoon and evening.
Set against the backdrop of Portobello Harbour and the Grand Canal, and spreading throughout Rathmines and Portobello, this truly unique festival will be the coolest event in Dublin this year.
