ABOUT US
Remember the Guinness ad from 2004 featuring Pat's bar and the episode with the telly? When the disgusted bartender upset with the lack of conversation in his pub decides to dump his tv in order to promote a more convivial atmosphere in the pub!! Remember it? Well then welcome to Blouser's in Westport County Mayo.......

Richard Walsh and his wife Mary Ann with their 5 children took over the premises at James Street in 1891, where they ran a pub and grocery store. Richard worked with the ordnance survey department. As a civil engineer he practiced his profession in Westport and was a well-known figure in the courts as Engineering witness in land disputes. His maps were always highly recommended by judges.

In 1925 Richard's son Thomas (Blouser) with his wife Bridget took over the premises where they ran the pub and kept lodgers from time to time. They eventually raised their 4 children of which Breege is the last surviving member.

Blouser was a great soccer fan and involved with the local coursing club but he especially enjoyed playing cards and he always said it was from playing poker in the town hall that he got the nickname "Blouser". He reckoned that he had pulled off some trick that earned him that name.

Blouser retired from pub life in 1973 when his daughter Breege took over the business, he died in 1977. Breege has many happy memories of all her time spent behind the bar, the interesting characters who came from far and wide and most especially the locals, some of whom had been regulars since she was a child.

Breege decided to retire in 1999 when she sold the premises to a local building contractor.

On the 5th of June 2009 Paul Navin from Westport took over the lease of Blouser's. Paul's Great grandfather just so happens to be Thomas Walsh otherwise known as "Blouser", and so the story continues.
