Ballina Textiles Group 2.26

Established and funded under the Local Community Development Programme of Mayo North East Leader Partnership Company in Foxford, Co. Mayo. This group currently meet in Ballina every Friday. Over the years this group have completed skills training in areas such as dressmaking, sewing, felting, embroidery, crochet recycling of clothes, stained glass work, print making, quilting, photography, business and computer skills.

The activities are mainly tutor-led when funding permits, but also peer-led from time to time where the group work on personal projects they are interested in and share skills and knowledge.

The group have begun to apply for small grants to sustain their activities and each participant contributes towards the cost of room use/refreshments. The group organise many days out to participate in craft events.

In 2014, as part of Mayo Ideas Week, the group showcased their work in an impressive exhibition in Ballina Arts Centre. This event was officially opened by Emer Ferran, CEO of The Design and Craft Council of Ireland.
